Opportunities for Artists and Printmakers

DC area printmakers (and artists in general) –if you haven’t checked out artsdc.org yet you should.  This site has a calendar of events as well as resources like gallery lists, artist opportunities, and open discussion forums.  Below are three calls for entry/applications that we found interesting, but there are lots more available!

1. District Identities Depictions of Washingtonian Life, Landscapes, and Cultural Legacies

Deadline: SOON! Monday, August 2, 7pm

DCCAH (DC Commission on Arts and Humanities) is seeking two and three-dimensional works available for purchase including prints, drawings, mixed media compositions, paintings, photographs, ceramics, moveable sculptures, digital media, and video art. Special attention will be given to innovative and dynamic photography, to meet the strong demand for photographs amongst government agencies. Selected works will be added to public spaces of government buildings.  This call is open to all artists who reside or maintain studio space in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. However, preference will be given to District residents.

2. Small Wonders National Juried Exhibition

Postmark Deadline: September 15

Maryland Federation of Art invites all artists residing in the United States and Canada to enter its Small Wonders National Juried Exhibition. This is the MFA’s sixth exhibition of small works. Any two or three dimensional artwork will be considered. Artwork may not exceed 11″ in any dimension. Works selected will be exhibited at the MFA Circle Gallery, Annapolis, MD from December 1-28, 2010.  $1000 in awards.

Buddy Valastro – the cake boss – is looking to launch the career of a promising, painter, sculptor, architect, designer or stylist for his brand new show. This is a new competition baking series, hosted by Buddy and family that will feature weekly lessons, challenges, and eliminations. 10 hopeful contenders will vie for cash and prizes.
