Saturday was the Opening Reception and Awards Announcements for this year’s National Small Works. The show had a variety of printmaking techniques, from traditional lithography to new advances, such as electrolytic etching. The subject matter and imagery was equally varied-with landscapes, still lifes, collages, figurative and abstract work all represented.
With a show so varied, it is hard to narrow it down to the top five. Juror Chris With commented that of the shows he has recently curated, he worked the hardest on this one. WPG wishes to thank him again for jurying a beautiful exhibition.
After much deliberation, Dr. With announced the following winners:
First Prize goes to Mandala, Monotype by Kiyomi Baird of New Jersey. Kiyomi will have the Juror’s Choice Solo Exhibition in August 2011.
Second Prize of a $200 Graphic Chemicals Purchase award goes to Land Mass, Cloud Series, Etching, by Mari LaCure of Kansas.
Third Prize of a $150 merchandise award to Utrecht Art Supplies goes to Prisoners, Photopolymer Plate Etching by Aileen Bassis of New Jersey
Fourth Prize of a $100 merchandise award to Renaissance Graphics goes to Peruvian Portal II, Mezzotint by Holly Downing of California.
Fifth Prize of a $50 merchandise award to Light Impressions goes to Bound, 2-Plate Intaglio with Metal Eyelets and Thread by Melody Knight Leary of Connecticut.
A big thank you again to all of the artists who submitted this year, and to our Juror, Chris With. Congratulations to all who were accepted and especially to this year’s winners!
