Four Things to Check Out

Natanz, Woodblock print by Carole Nelson, on view in December at WPG

First, don’t forget tonight is the opening of Two Artists: Many Journeys, the two-person show by Carole Nelson and Margaret Adams Parker, 5:30 – 8 pm.  We’re especially fortunate to have Carole Nelson here in person, all the way from California.

Can’t make it tonight?  Come tomorrow 1-4 pm for Carole Nelson’s artist reception and demo.

As for news outside the gallery, the DC art world has been getting riled up about the removal of David Wojnarowicz’s video piece “A Fire in my Belly” from the Hide/Seek show at the National Portrait Gallery.  In response to the removal, Transformer Gallery is screening this piece in its front window, and there was a protest about its removal from NPG last night.  Read Jessica Dawson’s article about it here.

Finally, to end on a less controversial note, Pyramid Atlantic Letterpress Associate Artists Julia, Leslie, and Melanie have started a blog about Pyramid’s Letterpress Community, including their letterpress happy hours.  This is a brand new blog, so not a lot is on it yet, but judging from the initial pictures, it should be fun!
