The following opportunities have upcoming deadlines for artists near the area!
VisArts Summer Residency (Rockville, MD), due June 30th: This deadline is coming up soon! There are two slots available, providing the artist with 24 hour access to a studio in the VisArts center located in the middle of Rockville Town Center. Go to their website for more information on how to apply. Keep in mind the process requires a cover letter, artist statement, project proposal, resume, and 10 images, so if it sounds good to you, best get moving!
WHIS 2011 Poster Contest, due July 31st : We included this one because it looks kind of fun, and even though the artist doesn’t get a monetary award, the winner does get a lot of free publicity through the display of their artwork! Entries are now being accepted to create a poster for the Washington International Horse Show. There is no entry fee but the limit of maximum entries is 3, and artists must complete an official entry form for each poster design. The specifications require the poster to be 24” x 30” in either horizontal or vertical format, but the artist must send only photos of the posters either by email or mail. Details about where to send the submissions or about the judging process itself can be seen here.
Del Ray Artisans Exhibition, due by July 27th: Del Ray Artisans (Alexandria, Virginia): For our printmakers who are also crafters, Del Ray Artistans will be holding an exhibit celebrating Independence Day and July called “Made in The USA”. This show prompts artists to create work encompassing all inspiration and significance to the US, even the materials used. There is an entry fee of $5 for members and $8 for non-members, with a limit of 2 submissions per artist. The gallery is receiving pieces on Sunday June 26, from 6:30-8:pm, and June 27, from 6-8pm. There are guidelines and requirements, such as being asked to contribute via donating food for the reception or volunteering to help set up, so make sure you know what time you have available before submitting.
