Nina Muys, one of the founding members of the gallery, is having her bi-annual “Art Purge” at her home in Silver Spring, MD on Sunday, December 18. Artworks from $10 to $1000 will be for sale. Bonus: a portion of the proceeds will go to the Susan Komen Cancer Research Foundation.
Nina prints primarily using a technique called carbogravure, or carborundum etching, which allows Nina a direct and painterly approach to her subject matter. You can read more about that process at the link. Nina has a studio on the Eastern Shore, and you can see its influence in her work. Flowers, landscapes, and waterscapes are abundant. The bold colors and pastoral settings make Nina’s work, whether large or small, a pleasure to look upon.
Nina received her BA from the University of Maryland and has also studied at the Corcoran College of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Her work has been exhibited extensively thoughout the United States as well as Argentina, Russia, Belgium and Egypt, and her prints are included in the collection of he National Musuem of Women in the Arts, The Museum of Modern Art – Buenos Aires, Argentina, and The White House.
