Last week we wrote about Americans for the Arts and their National Arts Advocacy Day, which is to be held on April 16, 2011. We also want to share another important organization, the Maryland Citizens for the Arts, and the Maryland Arts Day 2012.
Maryland Citizens for the Arts is a statewide arts advocacy organization, founded in 1977 to represent all Maryland artists and arts organizations of all disciplines. MCA works to increase public recognition and support of the Arts and the role they play in the quality of life and economic vitality of Maryland. Starting in 2007, the Maryland Arts Day became an annual event (formerly biennial) that draws all of Maryland’s arts industries together. Nearly 500 people–from arts organization staff, artists, legislators, and students–attend the event annually. It provides a show of support for the arts for elected officials as well as a day of networking and professional development for those in the arts.
The next Maryland Arts Day is February 8, 2012. Interested in learning more about the event or even attending yourself? Visit the event website! We’ll see you there!
