New Years Resolution: Take More Art Classes

The world possibly ending in a few days may have you reflecting on what really matters in life.  Are you sick of your soul-crushing job and need to get in touch with your inner artist?  Well, if we make it to the new year, may we suggest the wide selection of art classes around the area, at places like The Art League (Torpedo Factory’s school), Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, OpenStudioDC, and our very own Pyramid Atlantic.  A few recommendations for January PA classes are below and you can see more classes from all of these fine institutions at the links above:

Using Photopolymer for Letterpress:  January 12, 10-4 pm:  This class will teach you how to use digitally created designs on a Vandercook press.

Make Your Own Valentines: January 13 (Papermaking) and February 3 (Letterpress): Get super crafty and make your Valentines Day cards totally from scratch!  On the first Sunday you make your paper, on the second Sunday, you print your design on the pre-created paper cards!  Is that too much to try in one go?  No problem, you can just sign up for one or the other activities.

Exploration of Kozo: January 12 10-3 pm:  Kozo paper is very strong, even when tissue thin.  In this course, you will learn how to cook and prepare the fiber, and learn different hand beating techniques.  If you like the paper you make here, you might consider the April 27 course that mixes Kozo and Abaca to make LARGE (3×4 feet!) sheets of paper.
